The Legend of Lionman and the Seven Kurodos joins with Disneyland Martial Arts Festival to host the most spectacular Martial Arts Event in recent history New Orleans, LA October 15, 2009 – Grandmaster Eric “Lionman” O’Neal, Sr. will be introducing “The Legend of Lionman and the Seven Kurodos” to the thousands of Martial Artist during the Disneyland Martial Arts Festival ®. Next year’s event is expected tocount on the “The Legend of Lionman” to continue to “Recognize and Develop Education in the Martial Arts.” Grandmaster O’Neal Seven Time USKA World Karate Champion, two-time gold medal winner of the Goodwill Games, and inductee of the International & Masters Karate Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Chuck Norris break new ground as the “The Legend of Lionman” joins Disneyland Martial Arts Festival ®, needless to say you can, Jim Kelly and Bruce Lee, has always been about the children. In his efforts to reach, teach, and uplift the children of New Orleans, Grandmaster O’Neal created “The Legend Of Lionman and the Seven Kurodos”, a series of twenty-eight graphic novels of an American superhero who, along with a multicultural group of young superheroes, performs heroic and moral deeds, both real and fictional that will inspire, delight, uplift, and educate millions of children and adults all over the world. “Lionman” is the only American superhero that features prominently education, academic achievement, self-discipline and affirmation. "Lionman" is the first superhero that joins forces with characters from different nationalities that both entertain and educate at the same time. Through the use of the 28 graphic novel series, the website, the Lionman Clubs and the mentoring programs, "Lionman" will become a positive influence and a source of support and inspiration for children and youth around the world. Partnering with the Disney Martial Arts Festival, Grandmaster O’Neal kicks off the amazing and exciting Lionman* Knowledge Is Power * 20 City Tour. The first stop will be in New Orleans, during Thanksgiving weekend, to search for “7 Young American Heroes.” Students in each city will compete, American Idol-style, to become the face of one of the Seven Kurodos. In a tour bus playing uplifting and positive music, from the Lionman soundtrack, the Knowledge Is Power tour will visit schools and Martial Arts Tournaments in 20 cities as Grandmaster O’Neal searches for “7 Young America Heroes” worthy competitors. Lionman *Knowledge Is Power* 20 City Tour will end in Disneyland, during the Disney Martial Arts Festival.
The ultimate goal during the Lionman *Knowledge Is Power* 20 City Tour is to find seven students that will win a spot to represent their city at the finals. A total of 140 children, and their families, will attend the finals at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, on June 19th to compete to be the “7 Young American Heroes” that will appear in a special edition of a Lionman graphic novel that will be produced. There will be a total of seven winners, and those seven will become the faces of the Seven Kurodos, and they will serve as superheroes across the country. They will also have cameos in a movie being written that will star Grandmaster O’Neal as well as the Legend Grandmaster Jim Kelly from the Movie “Enter The Dragon” who will also be touring with Grandmaster O’Neal. The “7 Young American Heroes” winners will also receive many prizes and a scholarship. After the “7 Young American Heroes” winners are announced on Saturday during a Masters Hall of Fame ceremony at the Disney Martial Arts Festival, the newly minted Seven Kurodos will then open up Disneyland’s Main Street on Sunday Morning, alongside Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and the other beloved Disney characters. In the spirit of Lionman and the Seven Kurodos in terms of academic achievement and self-discipline, the Seven Kurodos will have to maintain a 3.0 GPA, serve as ambassadors by speaking with other students in schools and churches, and do community service, among other duties. They will truly be “7 Young America Heroes” across the world. In a sense of rebuilding New Orleans from the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina, Grandmaster O’Neal's efforts also coincide with President Barack Obama’s presence in New Orleans today to help rebuild not only lost homes and businesses but also revitalize a sense of hope and community within the city, and by extension, the world.
“It really is an exciting time,” said Grandmaster O’Neal. “The community may be slow in bouncing back, but it is the children who will really inherit this. That’s why I focus on them. If we don’t educate our children and give them all the tools needed to succeed, who will? That’s why we’re going on this tour, and this focus has brought back Grandmaster Jim Kelly to the martial arts world after a 30-year separation. ” He has been my role model since I first watched the Movies “Enter The Dragon” and “Black Belt Jones” and I’m happy to be working with my Super Hero. The first tour stop is in New Orleans on Saturday November 28, 2009, at the BLUE LION National Title Belt Championships in the Grand Ball Room Hilton, and we’ll show just how great our kids are when the first group of the “7 Young American Heroes” is chosen.
